They call us dreamers but we’re the ones who don’t sleep – Loulou d’Aki
«They call us dreamers but we’re the ones who don’t sleep” is a photo
essay looking at the hopes and dreams of youth, aiming to create a
testimony of our time. It’s inspired by the fact that youth should be the
age of infinite possibilities. Most of the project has been shot in the Middle
East and in situations linked to the Arab Spring revolution or in conflict
zones where youth too often is derived of it’s right to be young.
Loulou d’Aki’s project was chosen by Hannah Watson (Trolley Books)
because it provides “an accurate representation of the environmental
context for her portraits of youths, most of which located in the Middle East.
The very name of the project “Make a Wish”, from which the book was born,
is a challenge for them to write down their hopes and fears for the future in
an exercise book. The portraits are splendid and they fit in perfectly with the
images of the towns she visited, from Gaza to Tehran».
